Antimitotic and Antiproliferative Action of <i>Ficus septica</i> Burm. F. Stem Bark Ethanolic Extract

Ficus septica is a widely documented ethnomedicinal plant that locals have used in varied applications due to its antibacterial, antioxidant, antimutagenic, renoprotective, and other biological activities. The present study investigates the antimitotic antiproliferative actions of F. stem bark crude ethanolic extract using onion (Allium cepa) root tip assay yeast (Saccharomyces cerevisiae) proliferation assay. A. cepa showed can block mitosis cells by causing spindle chromosome damage. genotoxic based on increasing frequency chromosomal aberrations at higher concentrations. Mitotic anomalies observed are sticky chromosomes, vagrant laggard, pole deviation, polyploidy. It also decreased cell viability concentration-dependent manner. This revealed has properties tips yeasts. Further could be performed focusing identifying isolating antimitotic, components conducting screening models.
